Jhunjhunwala-Backed Concord Biotech Shares Fall 50%: Here’s Why the Stock Price Halved

rakesh jhunjhunwala stock fall

Shares of Concord Biotech attracted attention on Wednesday, November 4, after the stock appeared to fall nearly 50% on several trading platforms. However, the sharp decline was linked to the company’s 1:1 bonus issue rather than an equivalent loss in shareholders’ investment value.

The company turned ex-bonus on November 4, with the same date set as the record date for its bonus share distribution.

Concord Biotech Announces 1:1 Bonus Shares

Under the 1:1 bonus issue, eligible shareholders will receive one additional fully paid-up equity share for every existing share held, subject to regulatory approval.

This means the number of shares held by eligible investors will double. At the same time, the market price gets adjusted to reflect the increased share count.

For example, an investor holding 100 shares before the bonus issue will have 200 shares after the adjustment. The per-share price will be adjusted proportionately, keeping the overall holding value broadly unchanged.

Why Did the Share Price Drop Nearly 50%?

Concord Biotech shares closed at ₹1,229.90 on Tuesday. Following the bonus adjustment, the stock opened around ₹610 on Wednesday.

Some trading platforms appeared to show a decline of around 50% because they were comparing the adjusted price with the previous day’s unadjusted closing price.

During Wednesday’s session, the shares initially touched ₹595 before recovering to ₹623.65, marking a gain of around 4.8% from the adjusted opening levels.

Rakesh Jhunjhunwala’s Family Holds 24.10% Stake

Concord Biotech is also in focus because of its association with the late investor Rakesh Jhunjhunwala.

Three discretionary trusts associated with his children hold approximately 24.10% of the company. Their combined holding stands at around 5.04 crore shares after adjusting for the bonus issue.

The value of this stake was estimated at approximately ₹3,143 crore based on the reported share price.

Concord Biotech Share Price: Key Details

The stock’s adjusted 52-week high stood at ₹807.03 in August 2026, while its adjusted 52-week low was ₹493.53 in April 2026.

At ₹623.65, the stock was around 24% below its adjusted 52-week high but approximately 26% above its adjusted 52-week low.

The key point is that the apparent 50% fall was primarily a price adjustment following the bonus issue, not a comparable decline in the total value of an eligible shareholder’s holding.
